Today we’re kicking off a new weekly series on our blog where every Monday we’ll be posting our guide to our favorite places in Hawaii… Trying to decide where to go, what to see and what to eat in the Islands? We’ll let you in on local our favorites… Because who better to ask than a local? Today, we’re kicking off our latest series with our Guide to Haleiwa… Big waves, surfer dudes and shave ice: This is Haleiwa. An hour’s drive from Waikiki on Oahu’s North Shore, Haleiwa is the place to be any day of the week. The North Shore is ‘Country’ to us Oahuans and the place we go on the weekends for a lazy drive, roadside eats and a spot of sand on beaches that aren’t loaded with tourists (like Waikiki). I thought of this photo today of our resident Hawaii Bride Kristina and hubby Mark, shot just outside Haleiwa in the fields of Mokuleia and thought it would be the perfect image to kick-off our Guide to Haleiwa… What to Eat: Kahuku Shrimp! The smell of shrimp, butter and garlic… Mmmm… And yes, these wonderful smells come from this truck parked on the side of the highway… But out of that truck comes this yummy plate of garlic shrimp and two scoops of rice.
