Budget Wedding Tips From Martha
I’m on Martha Stewart Weddings’ mailing list and every morning I wake up to a lovely email about constructing your own paper flowers, the hot bridesmaid dress of the month and on and on. Sunday’s actually caught my eye: ‘65 Ways to Trim Your Wedding Budget’ . I thought I’d share a few of my fave especially for that Hawaii wedding you’re planning… Tip #1: Signature Drink I always thought signature drinks were a little corny, an idea the bride unwillingly thrusts upon the groom, drinks with syrupy sweet names like. But as Martha points out, serving a signature drink cuts down on the costs of having a full bar. Serve wine, beer and a signature drink to keep your beverage costs down. Plus, who can resist a ‘My Guy Mai Tai’ or a ‘You’re My Boo Malibu and Pineapple’? Okay, I totally made those up, but you get the point. Tip #5: Buy Local Ingredients I’m a big big fan of buying local! I’m all about the Farmer’s Market, supporting restaurants that use local ingredients… buying local keeps money in our local economy and local food just tastes better! And when you’re in Hawaii, we’re talking about abalone from the Big Island, grass-fed beef from Oahu’s North Shore and goat cheese from Maui. Ask your caterer about ‘Going Local’! Tip #15: Repurpose Your Wedding Flowers This is a great tip. Have your coordinator, or deisgnate a bridesmaid, to move and repurpose flowers and decor from your ceremony to your reception.
