An Orange and Green Sunset Wedding

A little over a month ago I had the absolute pleasure of working with Pacific Aisles at the wedding of Hawaii bride Mandy and her beau Dan. Based on the mainland, Mandy wanted to treat her local friends and out-of-town buddies to the oceanfront Hawaii wedding we all dream of. And all went off without a hitch. Check out the photos of Mandy and Dan’s beautiful sunset wedding by Chrissy Lambert … The day started off with an afternoon ceremony at St. Augustine Church in Waikiki… Before everyone headed off to Lanikuhonua for the sunset reception on the lawn… Simple and chic, island style…

Hawaii’s Best Cupcake… Mmmm…

Dear Cake Couture, Thank heaven I’ve found you! Okay, I admit, we’ve written several times about Cake Couture before , oohing and ahhing over Carmen Emerson Bass’ beautiful creations, but I’d never tasted such an amazing cupcake until I lapped up her lemon buttercream creation last week. I have died and officially gone to cupcake heaven. In addition to Cake Couture’s Aina Haina shop, they just opened a cupcake boutique in downtown Honolulu, giving a whole new meaning to ‘afternoon snack’. I have to say, Cake Couture is officially the best cupcake in Honolulu. The cupcakes are moist and tasty without being too sweet. The frosting is smooth not hard and dry and just the right amount of sweetness too. I also got try try a bit of the chocolate cupcake with espresso frosting and thumbs up x…

Pacific Bride’s Guide to: The Bachelorette Party Venue

A lovely Pacific Bride Guide fan (who goes by the name Jade) inspired today’s post… Hello! I LOVE your site and your blog. It is my absolute favorite. I am coming out for my wedding June 17 and wondered if you could recommend any fun ideas for a bachelorette party. I’m 28 so not looking for super club scene but do want to have some fun in a classy, festive atmosphere (no frat guys, no 50 year old businessmen) I know that is a tall order. We would like to do something authentically Hawaiian if possible. Any help would be much appreciated mahalo! So, here are a couple of ideas I sent over to Jade… thirtyninehotel, Chinatown thirtyninehotel in Honolulu’s Chinatown takes you worlds away from the street below. The rooftop bar has a backyard feel to it with wooden benches, colorful …

Pacific Bride’s Guide to: Accessorizing in Hawaii

Us local gals love living it up in the sunny Aloha State and we’re always on the lookout for fun accessories to go with our sundresses and slippers (flip-flops). A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of helping to put together local bride Mandy’s big day. Being there while her local childhood friends and college mainland gal pals got changed in the bridal suite, it was fun watching the colliding of two worlds. From Hawaii to Chicago, and a couple of places in between, it was intriguing watching the way we girls get styled from tank tops and flip flops in Hawaii to skirts and sandals on the Mainland. If you’re coming to town for your wedding or flying in for a friend’s Big Day or even if you’re a local bride stoked to show your mainland…

Pacific Bride’s Guide to: A Kailua Bike Ride

I spent a lovely day Saturday exploring Kailua by bike! I’ve had a bike since Christmas and have to say, I don’t use it nearly as much as I should. So I phoned a friend in Kailua on a beautiful Saturday morning and said, “Let’s ride!” We had a great afternoon biking around in the sunshine, eating shave ice, taking silly pictures of ourselves and just indulging in a relaxing afternoon. View Larger Map While we had our own bikes, Kailua Sailboards and Kayaks is now renting bikes by the half day-$20, full day-$25 and 7 days-$85. We stopped by their shop on…

A Stand-up Guy

Happy Monday! I came across this article last week in the Honolulu Advertiser and thought it was a nice way to start the week… A Stand-up Guy ‘Zap’ has been paddleboarding since the 1940s, learning it from Duke Kahanamoku by Paula Rath “I didn’t stand up. The Lord lifted me up.” That’s what John Zapotocky, 91, of Diamond Head, said when he stood up again recently on a paddleboard for the first time in four years, after a lifetime spent pushing that paddle. Zap, as he is called by other Waik?k? watermen, has been stand-up paddling since the …
